Orphan bikes

Mobile gives in cooperation with City of Kortrijk and the Police zone VLAS abandoned and donated bikes a new use.

Orphaned or abandoned bicycles in Kortrijk or boroughs are labelled in the streetscape. This also applies specifically to the many SNCB bicycle parking areas. If the bike remains untouched for three weeks, it will be collected and registered with photo and features on the following online platforms:

  • lostorfound.be - All orphaned bicycles located outside SNCB stations, in Kortrijk and boroughs, were located.

  • found.vlaanderen - Only orphaned bicycles that are within SNCB stations were located.

(Kortrijk citizens can also report abandoned bikes in their street or park to the 1777 complaints line of City of Kortrijk).

The original owner has three months to apply. You need to apply for the bike online using the online platform where the bike is registered (see above). After three working days you can collect the bike from our shop, best with property deed  (invoice, photo, lock key, ...) at hand.

Remains the bike orphan, then it automatically becomes the property of Mobiel. We refurbish usable bikes, use parts or recycle materials.

A double win-win:

  • Bicycles and equipment thus get a longer life or even a second life

  • Neater and safer station and neighbourhood environments

  • Meaningful social employment for people with fewer opportunities

  • Affordable bicycle mobility for all
